About Us
Founded in 1982, the Nevada Society of Scottish Clans is dedicated to celebrating and perpetuating the cultural heritage of Scotland and its people, including ancient customs, literature, music, games, history and dress.
The Society is based in Reno, and serves members in northern Nevada, northeastern California and beyond. Membership is not limited to people of Scottish decent. It’s open to those who share in the Society’s mission and goals.
The Society has an impressive history of offering gatherings and events, with informative, educational and entertaining content and activities. Most notable, is the annual, renowned Robert Burns Celebration honoring the memory of Scotland’s beloved national poet. It is an evening steeped in pageantry and tradition, with guests dressed in kilts, colorful tartans and smart evening wear. A typical program features bagpipe and Highland dance performances, a dramatic presentation of the haggis, festive toasts, whiskey tasting and presentation of the Society’s highest honor, the Silver Thistle Award to the Scot of the Year.
NSSC is a nonprofit organization, governed by a Board of Directors and supported by committees and members, who volunteer their time to ensure the Society remains viable, year after year.
The Society is funded by membership dues, event fees, sponsorship fees, donations, in-kind-services and other sources.
